What drives Hardie siding cost up on a Springfield, PA house?

Removal of the old siding, especially asbestos-cement that needs licensed abatement; sheathing repairs; second-story and gable work that needs staging; trim around many windows; and factory-finished boards, which Angi prices $1 to $2 per square foot above primed. A stone or brick front lowers the total by cutting wall area.

HomeGuide lists asbestos removal at $7 to $10 or more per square foot, separate from the siding.

Hardie cost questions

Why does HomeGuide show higher Hardie prices than Angi?
HomeGuide's per square foot figures include tearing off the old siding and preparing the walls; Angi lists removal, weather barrier and trim as add-ons. Read what each number includes before comparing.
Is primed or pre-painted Hardie board cheaper overall?
Primed boards cost less to buy but need painting after installation. Factory-finished boards cost more up front and usually go longer before repainting. Total cost over time depends on your painting plans.
